Gordon Thomson in "Poseidon" remake

Gordon Thomson, who once shared "Dynasty" scenes as a sibling with Pamela Sue Martin, will be starring in the remake of one of her most famous films, 1972's "The Poseidon Adventure." The remake, titled simply, "Poseidon," is now finishing up production and scheduled for a May 12, 2006 release. Though Martin says on her official website that she was not asked to do a cameo in the 2006 remake, she does do a special featurette for the new deluxe DVD release of the original, which will coincide with the remake's release (got all that? whew!).

Thomson, meanwhile (stunning, as well, playing the third and final Mason Capwell on our beloved "Santa Barbara"), will play the character Jay in the "Poseidon" remake, about an ocean-liner full of people who must fight their way out when the ship capsizes. The film is directed by Wolfgang Petersen (who did "The Perfect Storm" and "Outbreak") from a script by Paul Attanasio and Akiva Goldsman, adapted from a novel by Paul Gallico. The film also stars Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas and Richard Dreyfuss.

Constance Marie has an "Easier, Softer Way"

If you've been enjoying the "SB" Pebble Creek Reunion Series at BarbarianTV.com (thanks Elena, Kimmah, FrenchBubbly and the crew for bring us these great "SB" videos!), you've been seeing the spicy, smitten Nikki Alvarez pursuing the hot Cruz Castillo. Next up for the busy Constance Marie, who currently stars as Angie Lopez in the "George Lopez" sitcom on ABC, is the film "Easier, Softer Way," scheduled for 2006 release. (The film is directed by Mekhi Phifer, whom BRBTV thinks just rocked in the Detroit-based "8 Mile." Phifer also stars in this one.) Marie plays a character named Montana. The movie's logline from the IMDb: "Tired of being on the wagon, two stoners get voluntarily mixed up in the plot to rip off a shady figure known as Mr. Big."

In other "SB" news: The lovely Robin Wright Penn was up for a Screen Actors Guild Award last night for her role in "Empire Falls," but -- alas -- did not win. Rats!

Ouch! John Schneider, what next?

*SPOILER WARNING* if you haven't seen last night's episode of a certain popular WB show!

Yikes -- BRBTV is draped in black this morning (OK, OK, this blog always has a black background!) for the loss of Jonathan Kent on one of our very favorite shows in the whole wide world, the WB's "Smallville." Fans of "The Dukes of Hazzard," though, will just want to know what John Schneider has going on next. Schneider's publicist tells BRBTV that there's "nothing on the horizon yet," and we'll keep ya posted, if that changes ...

Anyone who saw Schneider in last night's episode experienced a major "psyche"! The previews for the show seemed to steer everything in the direction of a fatal car crash for Lana. And yes, she did indeed die in the episode's first half, but then the writers took a twisty-turny-thingy to have Clark appeal to Jor-El at the Fortress and actually turn back time! (No, not by flying around the globe like Christopher Reeve did in the Superman movies, but we wondered if that was coming! The episode did feature that whole turning-coal-into-a-diamond thing, after all!) So Clark was able to save Lana -- unwittingly at the cost of his own father! And we have to admit, Pa Kent did become a bit of a liability when he actually won the senatorial race early on in the episode, because we just don't remember that from the comics! Of course, "Smallville" certainly doesn't follow the continuum of the comics and movies, exactly. But it now follows a particular aspect of the Superman lore, in the fact that Pa Kent is no longer with us. (ABC's 1990s "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," for instance, left Pa Kent alive during Clark's Daily Planet years.)

We moan and groan and mourn the absence of a brilliant actor (whom our viewing companion last night, by the way, said really did a great death scene). And we hope this talent -- a talent we saw so young and fresh as a teen in the General Lee back in 1979 -- will have another project coming up soon.

Take the "Roads Back to Hazzard"!

If you're not already in Georgia, then you better make plans to be! The Hazzard County Car Club (www.dukesofhazzard01.com) invites you to take those dusty old "Roads Back to Hazzard" with a tour of the original Georgia filming sites of "The Dukes of Hazzard."

It'll be about 50 sites over 87 miles of country, event organizer Jon Holland tells BRBTV. It'll include fun stuff like the original Boar's Nest (now a church! holy cow!) and the town square in Covington, used as the downtown setting for Hazzard in those first five episodes that filmed in Georgia. The big day is Saturday, March 4, with a special trip to where the show's original mechanics hang out on Sunday, March 4 (you know they had to have some good mechanics, to keep all those '69 Dodge Chargers runnin'). The registration and check-in are at the Holiday Inn Conyers, 8 a.m. on Saturday, then we'll all meet back there at 7 p.m. BRB will be there to sign copies of the brand-spankin'-new print version of the "Them Dukes! Them Dukes!" book! We'll also watch the first two "Dukes of Hazzard" episodes, on a 1979 tape (with commercials), for old time's sake, and there'll be raffles and auctions of great stuff like authentic General Lee and sheriff's car doors.

A cool $35 entry fee will help out the Rainbow Ministries Charity, which Jon tells us helps out many needy people in the community.

Who knows -- if lots of y'all show up, maybe this will become yearly, like a second DukesFest! We're sure Ben Jones won't mind!

Emma Samms returns to "GH"!!!

Holy guacamole, it's a grand-ole heyday reunion for ABC's "General Hospital," when Luke Spencer, Robert Scorpio and Holly Sutton Scorpio share the screen once again! Our own (second) Fallon of "Dynasty," the lovely, oh-so English, buxom Emma Samms, will reprise her role as Holly on the daytime soap on February 20. Tristan Rogers' character Robert will be returning tomorrow, and the captivating quick-as-a-whip Tony Geary as Luke ... well, he's just been there, 'bless him!

Those of us who watched "GH" in its late-'70s/early-'80s glory days, the days of Luke and Laura and the Ice Princess and Mikos Cassadine and cameos by Liz (sorry, that's Elizabeth) Taylor (and the young'uns Demi Moore and Janine Turner as Jackie and Laura Templeton -- oh, but we do digress!), remember well the delicate young flower of Holly Sutton, before Samms went to Denver to play a kinder, gentler Fallon back from the dead. This new stint in Port Chuck has Holly back in town just in time for a big health epidemic.

Samms reprised her "GH" role in the early '90s, as well. Samms will return in the 11,000th episode of "GH." You can check out the full official word from ABC here:

Happy DVD Release Day: "Dallas," Season 4!

The fourth season of "Dallas" officially released on DVD today, which is certainly cause for celebration. It was an amazing No. 38 in DVD sales ranking when BRBTV checked in with Amazon today!

This third DVD in the series (the first and second seasons are combined) features 23 episodes on four double-sided DVDs. It begins with the aftermath of the Shot Heard 'Round the World, continues on with the resolution to that famous cliffhanger. Sue Ellen's drinking takes center stage, and the whomper of a revelation about Ray Krebbs' parentage emerges (and we sweep under the rug that whole rolling-in-the-hay thing with Lucy in Season 1). Pam searches for her mother, Lucy and Mitch get hitched (as do Donna and Ray) and Dusty Farlow pops up in again. This was certainly our beloved "Dallas" swinging in full, fine form!

Busy, busy Robin Wright Penn

Talented and aesthetically stunning -- how can Robin Wright Penn go wrong? We all knew it when she starred so young as C.C. Capwell's original "kitten" Kelly on "Santa Barbara." Now, she's got a nice slate of projects on the horizon, according to the IMDb:

- "The Night Job," originally scheduled for a 2005 release but listed as in production. Penn will play Iris Hellington in this thriller directed by John McNaughton and also starring Ray Liotta and Marisa Tomei.
- "Untitled Ernest Hemingway Project," scheduled for release this year, though it's been stalled for a couple years. She's playing Martha Gellhorn, love interest to the late great Hemingway, played by James Gandolfini.
- "Hounddog," also scheduled for a 2006 release, a Dakota Fanning vehicle about a young girl "on a dark and mysterious journey through the rural South who finds her angel in the Blues," the IMDb says.
- "Breaking and Entering," also on tap for this year, starring Juliette Binoche and Jude Law. Penn will play Liv in the drama, written and directed by Anthony Minghella of "Cold Mountain" fame.
- "Beowulf," based on the epic poem and scheduled for 2007. The fantasy is directed by Robert Zemeckis and also stars Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie. Neil Gaiman, big name in the comic-book world for his "Sandman," lends a hand with the writing and producing.

Patrick Duffy -- caught in the middle?

Patrick Duffy plays a hubby whose wife is feuding with his next-door neighbor's wife in the new Hallmark Channel movie "Falling in Love With the Girl Next Door." The movie, which has a great cast that includes Patty Duke and Shelley Long as the feuding wives and Bruce Boxleitner as the other hubby, airs Saturday, February 4 at 9 p.m., 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., then again on Tuesday, February 7 at 9 p.m. In it, Duffy's character, shown at right, provides a voice of reason, along with Boxleitner's character, as their kids are falling in love despite the motherly disputes going on around them. Duffy's son Conor also stars in the film, directed by Armand Mastroianni.

Pamela Sue Martin appears in 'The L Word'

Pamela Sue Martin, the feisty Fallon (original!) on "Dynasty," who's been awfully quiet these past several years (and that is awful, isn't it?) will do a guest shot on the TV series "The L Word." The series, now in its third season on Showtime, chronicles the lives of a group of lesbians living in Los Angeles and stars Jennifer Beals. Martin's character is named Linda Kennard, and the episode airs Sunday, February 5.

Morgan Brittany's next project: "Americanizing Shelley"

Morgan Brittany, the smart 'n' sassy sophisticate Katherine Wentworth on "Dallas," will be appearing in the movie "Americanizing Shelley," which began filming late last year. Brittany will play a character named Georgina in the romantic comedy, directed by Lorraine Senna (who did some "Dynasty" directing over the years, as well).

The logline for the movie at the imdb.com: "A wannabe Hollywood player sets out to Americanize an Indian girl from the Himalayas."

Beau Bridges and "Star Trek: The Next Generation"'s Wil Wheaton also star, along with the son and namesake of basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Cooter, Cooter everywhere

BRBTV had the pleasure of chatting with Ben Jones, aka Cooter of "The Dukes of Hazzard," over the phone a couple days before Christmas for the print release of the "Them Dukes! Them Dukes!" book. One of the things he noted was that he sure makes a heck of a lot of appearances, particularly because he has two locations of his "Cooter's Place" museums and stores of "Dukes" memorabilia, which he spends quite a lot of time at. Besides that, he's still a busy boy. Here's what he's up in the next few months, if you're thinking you'd like to catch 'im:

Nancy Lee Grahn, the former attorney Julia Wainwright on "SB" and the current attorney Alexis Davis on ABC's "General Hospital," will be making her Las Vegas debut in March. She'll be making a special personal appearance for fans that includes a question-and-answer session, autograph-signing, silent auctions and raffles. Tracy L. Johns, coordinator for the event for Grahn, tells BRBTV this about the auctions and raffles:

"There will be two raffles. John Schneider as Jonathan Kent: Will he or won't he?

For five seasons now, John Schneider has portrayed Jonathan Kent, father of the future Superman, on the WB's "Smallville" with a vim and vigor that make him seem only a hare beyond his youthful days as the precocious Bo Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard." How he adds in that strong measure of dignity to this current fatherly role, we'll never know (and believe you-me, we could drone on and on about the talents of John Schneider ... meow ... but we won't! promise!).

Anyway, speculation is buzzing about the future of Jonathan Kent, as the WB has been teasing viewers for weeks about the death of a major character -- a character "close" to Clark Kent. Jonathan would, of course, be a likely suspect for that slaughter, as he was killed off in the regular Superman comics continuum and in the well-known 1970s motion picture starring Christopher Reeve.

So ... will he or won't he get killed???? "Smallville" fans -- and John Schneider fans -- want to know!

Before last night's episode, which really did a "psyche!" on the viewers with its implication that Jonathan would bite the dust by either a sniper's bullet or a heart attack, Schneider posted a note to his home page, http://www.johnschneider.tv, reproaching fans for speculating on Jonathan's demise. "I have read several scripts with Jonathan Kent in them," Schneider said, "and have no evidence of his demise."

"But that could just mean episode flashbacks!" one viewer close to BRBTV said. Yes, indeed ... But BRBTV would really love to believe that Jonathan Kent does, indeed, survive the Great Fifth-Season Hyped Killing. We really would. And we're going to, gosh-dang-it!

So in that spirit, BRBTV offers these other suspects -- and maybe requests ... WB, are you listening? -- for the killing that will happen in two weeks, in the special 100th episode of "Smallville," titled "Reckoning," on Thursday, January 26:

- Chloe Sullivan
Chloe is a character created for the "Smallville" series, a sort of Lois-Lane-like reporter-type teen who has added that necessary journalistic touch to the show's premise of Clark's youthful years. Because she's not part of the regular Superman lore, she's expendable. Plus, she knows Clark's secret, which makes her a bit of a liability. If the more-recently introduced Lois is going to step up and take a larger role in "Smallville," which she certainly has in the past season or two, then maybe the similar character of Chloe (who's Lois' cousin, actually) is just adding some confusion to the mix. She's a very likely suspect for the killing.

- Lana Lang
Some Superman fans would argue that Lana's accomplished what she's needed to accomplish on the show, to serve the greater Superman lore: She's been Clark's high-school sweetheart. Now she can go home, so to speak. She does appear in Clark's adult years in the comics world, and she certainly appeared in the Superman movies. But she's much more expendable, in the Superman story, than the crucial Lois Lane, for instance. PLUS ... she really became suspect in the final few minutes of last night's episode. She told Clark just how much she's investigating the two Smallville meteor showers and the idea that perhaps a ship landed in the first shower, years ago (the shower, that of course, brought Clark to Earth!). Yikes! She's gettin' way too close ... way too close for her own good ... better kill that chick off ...

- Lana Lang's unborn child
Sorry, but we're a soap opera fan at heart -- we've just gotta see an overused soap-opera cliche around every corner! What if Lana became pregnant during the one "encounter" of Clark and Lana, while he had lost his superpowers, and that child is the one that's sacrificed on the altar of the ratings grab? It would be someone who's "close" to Clark, and it would save the need to kill off a major character that fans would actually miss! My, how convenient! The preview for the 100th episode seems to indicate something happens to Lana, which would make either this theory or the one above it fit nicely!

- Lionel Luthor
Lionel's completely expendable, in accordance with Superman lore. We've loved having him on the show, and John Glover is magnificent beyond words in that role. But he's completely expendable. He's made his substantial contributions to son Lex's formative years, for the show's purposes; he's corrupted him enough to explain why Lex becomes so nasty. So he can go now.

- Pete Ross
This one is a "dark horse" theory submitted by a fan BRBTV knows ... What if Clark's good buddy Pete pops back onto the scene, after a couple seasons away, just in time to die and fulfill the purpose of this "necessary" fifth-season killing? He certainly wouldn't be missed, since he was away for so long! Pete is part of the regular Superman lore, having a "thing" going on with Lana in the post-high-school years. But he also knows Clark's secret, so his killing would be one less person out there knowing Clark's secret!

So we wait ... "with bait on our breath," as BRB's old Detroit News pal Ralph would say ... until January 26 ... John, we're prayin' for you -- but hey, there'll always be a seat in the General Lee for ya, buddy, if you're kicked off the Kent Farm ...

Linda Evans, Joan Collins, Nolan Miller team up for "Legends"

Art imitating art? The fighting femmes of "Dynasty," Joan Collins and Linda Evans, will star in a play about ... two former co-starring actresses who've been feuding for years and who are forced to star with each other again. How fun is that? The play, "Legends," begins rehearsals this summer, Collins notes on her website. The author, James Kirkwood Jr., who died in 1989, also wrote 1985's "A Chorus Line" and the 2002 play "P.S. Your Cat is Dead."

Nolan Miller has been tapped to dress these lovely ladies again for "Legends." My, isn't life ironic ...

But does art imitate life? (Or life imitate art!) No, according to Collins: "Contrary to what many people wanted to think, Linda and I actually got along extremely well during the 'Dynasty' years. The producers and the media loved to create feuds between us because it mirrored our hostility on the show. Well, in 'Legends' there will be plenty of hostility (on stage only) between us, which should certainly satisfy 'Dynasty' fans."

Larry Hagman reunites with Barbara Eden in "Love Letters"

Larry Hagman, our irrepressible, unstoppable J.R. of "Dallas," reunites with his "I Dream of Jeannie" costar Barbara Eden (who did her own time on "Dallas," as well, you'll recall, late in the series run) in the Broadway production of "Love Letters." This romantic comedy by A.R. Gurney hits the stage at the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce, Florida, on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4. It then moves to Clearwater, Florida, on the next day, February 5, for an afternoon performance at Ruth Eckerd Hall. Check out the facility websites for actual ticket info, if you're in the area ...

Sydney Penny stars in Hallmark Channel's "Hidden Places"

Catch the lovely, raven-haired Sydney Penny, who played B.J. Walker on our favorite daytime soap, "Santa Barbara," in the Hallmark Channel's movie, "Hidden Talents," on Saturday, January 28. The two-hour movie will air rapid-fire at 9 p.m., 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.

Penny plays California farmer Eliza Wyatt, a "a hopeless single mother whose faith is tested." Hmmm ... Cool! (Penny is no stranger to the Western frontier, anyway, having played the cute little button of a girl who had a crush on Clint Eastwood in the 1985 film "Pale Rider.")
