Archie and his friends are reliving history … and little do they know that reenacting history has a long history itself! Over the centuries, many historical events have been recreated by people acting out roles with faithful costumes and language. Such reenactments have included:

• The Roman restaging of famous battles as public spectacle
• Middle Age tournaments with historical themes from ancient cultures
• 19th century reenactments in Britain.
• 20th century commemorations of famous Russian military conquests
• Pageants celebrating great American events like the founding of St. Louis

To this day, historical reenactments, or “living history,” live on. Whether it’s a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, a Renaissance Faire, or one of many Civil War reenactments that occur each year, history is more alive than ever, thanks to the faithful role-players who don the costumes and mannerisms of their predecessors.
