John Schneider sells TV shows to 2 cable networks

Our own Bo Duke, Mr. John Schneider of "The Dukes of Hazzard," updated fans via email today, noting how he's been workin' some interesting angles on future TV lineups.

"I managed to sell two shows last month based on stunts!" he says. "A reality show, 'Crash Test Dummies,' and a drama, 'The Dead Ringer.' One is to Spike and the other to USA. Right now I am pitching a show about finding the next world-class jockey and also a half-hour sitcom called 'Johnny Black.' 'Johnny Black' is one meeting away from being purchased by CMT! It centers on a world-famous bad-boy singer who is actually quite subdued at home. Me."

OK, well ... further testament to the fact that our John-John's not slowing down anytime soon. And pursuant to that, another note on what's coming up on Schneider's agenda:

Lightning Fest
August 7-8
Dyersville, Iowa
http://collector.johnnylightning.com/?xcid=jlhome

Joining Schneider will be BRBTV's bud Paul Harrington of the Canadian Dukes of Hazzard Fan Club, along with his vast "Dukes of Hazzard" museum and car display.

Cooter's Last Stand: A chat with Raymond Kohn of Northeast Ohio Dukes

When this author spoke with Mr. Raymond Kohn of the Northeast Ohio Dukes stunt group earlier this year about his landmark General Lee jump in downtown Detroit (see the April 8 post!), I asked if I could get him on camera at the Cooter's Last Stand event, which happened in Luray, Virginia, this past weekend. He was kind enough to oblige, chatting about that Detroit jump as well as what's coming up for the group. Not only are they hosting a full stunt show in Mount Gilead, Ohio, on Labor Day weekend, but they're traveling to Houston around Thanksgiving time, too.

It's the first of three videos from Cooter's Last Stand -- look for a walk-through of the super-cool "Dukes of Hazzard" museum at Cooter's Place tomorrow! And many thanks, once again, Raymond, for taking the time!

Bits 'n' pieces: New movie projects, appearances and more

Richard Hatch, whom we know as Dean Caldwell on "Dynasty," will be hosting a panel discussion at Comic-Con in San Diego this year. The "Battlestar Galactica" star's panel, "So Say We All," is on Thursday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m.

Linda Evans of "Dynasty" notes on her official Facebook page, "I will miss my beautiful friend, Nolan Miller. He has been in my life since 'The Big Valley'.... 1965… and he’ll always be in my heart."

Lane Davies, our original Mason Capwell of "Santa Barbara," continues to shine in the online web soap "The Bay," getting some good screen time in the most recent webisode as Mackenzie Johnson.

Anthony De Longis, who was the evil Leo Mitchell on "SB," is working on a new movie project: "Cowboy Creed."

Richard Eden of "SB" (Brick Wallace) also has a new movie in the works. He wrote the script for "Retribution" and was shooting it earlier this year, collaborating with his wife, Shannon Hile. The film also features Brian Krause of "Charmed."

The Soap Series on BlogTalkRadio has caught up with a couple of our BRBTV stars lately:  Lesley Anne Down of "Dallas" and Tricia Cast of "SB."

Byron Cherry, Coy Duke of "The Dukes of Hazzard," has announced a tribute to "Dukes" castmate Christopher ("Vance Duke") Mayer at the Automania show in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the end of this month. Cherry also notes he will be retiring his own General Lee to a museum.

Make your travel plans now for the Motor City Comic Con in May

Daisy Duke and Boss Hogg's nephew Jamie Lee Hogg -- together again, in one place -- is one of the things you'll see at the Motor City Comic Con in Metro Detroit this May. Yessiree, Catherine Bach and Jonathan Frakes (who went on, of course, to become Number Two / William Riker on the U.S.S. Enterprise on "Star Trek: The Next Generation") will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs. They played a couple of young'uns just plain smitten with each other in the "Dukes of Hazzard" episode, "Mrs. Daisy Hogg."

And speaking of "Star Trek," there's plenty of that at the con. Connor Trinneer (Trip of "Enterprise," which BRBTV is currently loving rewatching on Sci Fi Monday nights); Grace Lee Whitney of classic "Trek"; Nana Visitor, who was Kira Norys of "Deep Space Nine" and who also played ballerina Georgina Sinclair on "The Colbys"; Ethan Phillips, our lovable Neelix of "Voyager"; and Robin Curtis of "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" and "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home," as well as "The Next Generation."

If you're a "Six Million Dollar Man" and "Bionic Woman" fan, catch Richard Anderson, too. And if you're a "General Hospital" fan, Frakes will be bringing along his wife, Genie Francis, best known as Laura Webber-et.-al.

The show runs May 19-21 at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Michigan, the same site as last year. Check the con's website for a full list of guests and ticket info, and check last year's May 2 and May 21 through May 26 posts of this blog to catch a glimpse of the 2006 fun. BRB had a blast, and she'll be at this year's show, too, at Paul Harrington's "Dukes of Hazzard" museum and car display! (Keep up with BRB's sched, by the way, at the "Events and Media" page of BillieRae.com.) Fabbo!

Cooter's in the Valley has its grand opening next weekend

A press release from Cooter's Place ...
......

(Luray, Virginia) After months of working to turn the old Outlanders building on Highway 211 west of Luray into “a hunk of Hazzard County”, Ben “Cooter” Jones and “Miss Alma” Viator are expecting a “fine turnout” for their grand opening of Cooter’s in the Valley on the weekend of May 6 and 7.

“We actually opened the doors a few days after we got the keys,” Viator says. “But we’ve worked every day since then to create an atmosphere that really reflects the fun and wholesomeness of ‘The Dukes of Hazzard.’ At first we just had a little shop in one area, but when we have our grand opening we’ll be almost finished. We’ve got our kitchen and ice cream bar, two large shopping areas, a very large museum that will also serve as a 299-seat live concert theater, and a small recording studio where folks can record themselves. We’ve turned the old motorcycle garage into a replica of Cooter’s Garage, which will make people think that we are actually back in Hazzard County!”

Jones and Viator opened their first “Cooter’s Place” in Rappahannock County in 1998 and added stores in Gatlinburg and Nashville, Tennessee, in the next few years. A second Sperryville store ran into parking problems when, after a year of success, Rappahannock officials decided that the parking area was not zoned properly for that use, and “Cooter’s” was forced to close.

That is when Page County reached out and showed them the Outlanders property.

“It was ideal,” Viator says. “There is plenty of room for parking, room for cruise-ins, room for a children’s playground, room for free weekend musical concerts, and room for a whole lot of visitors. Folks have already come from all over America. Page County is perfect for us.”

The grand opening will feature special guest Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard" and has gone on to star in films, television, and on Broadway. Wopat will do personal appearances on both Saturday and Sunday.

Besides the regular free concerts of country and bluegrass music on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, “Cooter’s” is also going to be the new home of “The Shenandoah Jamboree,” which is now in its fifth season. Jones, who helped to start the Jamboree with Page Countians Lisa and Robby Meadows, thinks its new home is going to be ideal. “Our place is so well located between Luray and Interstate 81. And the new theatre really connects the audience with the performers. We’re going to have a really fine season, and we’re kicking it off with Tom Wopat. He’s a world-class singer. He can sing anything. He’s had Nashville hits, Broadway shows, and he’s a really fine jazz and pop singer.”

The Shenandoah Jamboree premieres on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. and will feature a variety of standout performers. Upcoming shows include:
  • May 6 – Tom Wopat
  • June 3 – Michael Twitty (son of Conway Twitty
  • Sept. 2 – Larry Stephenson (Bluegrass & Gospel)
  • Oc. 7 – LuLu Roman & the Hee Haw Honeys
  • Dec. 2 – Cooter’s Country Christmas
Individual concert tickets are $25 reserved / $20 general admission, and season tickets are $100 reserved / $75 general admission.

For tickets or more information about Cooter’s in the Valley visit cootersplace.com or call 540-843-2515. Cooter’s in the Valley is located at 4768 U.S. Highway 211 West in Luray, VA 22835.

Tom Wopat releases new album

From the web folks of Tom Wopat, our own Luke Duke of "The Dukes of Hazzard" ...

We are excited to finally unveil what Tom has been working on for the past few months -- his brand new album!

That's right -- on February 12, 2013, Tom's eighth studio album, "I've Got Your Number," will be released! Backed by a 30-piece orchestra, with this album Tom fulfills his desire to focus on what he describes as "the “orchestra/big band hybrid of the ‘60s and ‘70s.” “Like the Bobby Darin stuff,” he says. “Frank Sinatra did big band then too, everybody did. And we really wanted to go for that -- in the standards as well as the contemporary tunes. We’ve evoked the spirit of the New York supper club era and the cool vibe of the 'Mad Men' days. The recording swings hard and there’s a lot of really fine music.”

The album romps through a wide breadth of songs, ranging between selections from the American Songbook to unique versions of songs by popular artists including James Taylor, Paul Simon, Judy Collins, Bruce Springsteen and more. Plus, the album includes two brand new songs written by Tom himself! Visit http://www.tomwopatofficial.com to read the full press release with more details about the album.

AND - we couldn't tell you about the record without letting you hear some music! Just click HERE to listen to the song "The Good Life" now! Make sure to leave a comment on Youtube to let Tom know what you think!

Stay tuned for much more information, including details on how to order your copy. We'll be putting together some fun packages! And make sure to take a look at the tour dates below to see if Tom is coming to your city soon.

Sincerely,

Wopat Webcrew

Motor City Mania: "Star Trekkin' ... across the universe ...

... on the Starship Enterprise, under Captain Kirk!" Or Captain Picard! Or Sisko, or Janeway, or Archer! ... Oooooh, there was a lot to love at last weekend's Motor City Comic Con, if you're a "Star Trek" fan. The Starfleet contingent was out in full force, along the far wall of the convention hall.

Grace Lee Whitney and BarBara Luna of the original series (Yeoman Janice Rand and the enticing and manipulative Lt. Marlena Moreau of the standout "Mirror Mirror" episode, respectively). (Luna, by the way, chatted with BRBTV about her time as Carmen Esperanza on "Dallas" -- look for more on that soon.) Jonathan Frakes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," covered on this blog yesterday. Nana Visitor, Kira Norys of "Deep Space Nine," was scheduled to attend but couldn't make it. Robert Picardo (the holographic doctor) and Ethan Phillips (Neelix) of "Voyager." And sitting at adjoining tables, Connor Trinneer (Tucker / Trip) and Dominic Keating (Malcolm Reed) of "Enterprise," which BRBTV is just loving rewatching on Sci Fi on Mondays 7-11 p.m.

BRBTV got to chat for a moment with Dominic, who's cuter than cute can be. (See his "other good side" in the photo below!) We mentioned how his character and Trinneer's character seemed to have such a good rapport on the show. "Do the two of you keep in touch?" we asked. He nodded and said (with his elegant British accent) they live right next door to each other. "But now he has a kid, so I don't see him as much," he said. Keating, by the way, is appearing in the new movie version of "Beowulf" with Robin Wright Penn, our own original Kelly Capwell of "Santa Barbara."

Robert Picardo was one of the celebs who was kind enough to come over to the "Dukes of Hazzard" museum display and pose for photos with us all. Though you might not recognize Ethan Phillips (who also came over) in real life, without all his Neelix facial prosthetics, the handsome mug of our good holographic doc is simply unmistakable.

Byron Cherry has some movie projects in the works

Our buddy Byron ("Coy Duke") Cherry has got his star shining brightly lately, out and about at events like the Louisiana "Dukes of Hazzard" reunion we mentioned earlier this week, and being featured in places like PowerBlock TV / magazine and Mopar Muscle magazine. Now he's got some screen stuff going on, too.

According to his official website, Cherry will be appearing in the movie "Ring of the Fallen," starring Anthony Hopkins, Bruce Willis, Danny Glover, and The Rock! Byron is cast as Deputy Ralley. Also look for Byron in a new film called "Dragon Child," which was scheduled to shoot this year.

By the way, Cherry is donating his personal General Lee to the Tim Welborne Muscle Car Museum; see the video at CoyDuke.com.

By the way, we're heading to the Hazzard Homecoming this weekend, so look for our standard fun-filled coverage of the event on this blog next week!
