"Star Trek" and "Continues" web series shine in these creative collages

A couple weeks ago you saw the clever collages created by C.J., who's an avid fan of "Wonder Woman," "The Bionic Woman," "Star Trek" and much more. C.J. has turned his attention to not only the original "Trek" series but also the newer fan-made web series "Star Trek Continues." Have you seen the web series? It looks amazing, and this author is going to dive into those episodes herself very soon. The actors' likenesses to the original cast are pretty good, and the sets look incredible. In the meantime, you can enjoy these colorful images, courtesy of C.J., and yes, you can download them ...

Terrific non-TV Toys: Batgirl ViniMate by Diamond Select Toys, 2018

This time on Terrific non-TV Toys, it's an item released for Free Comic Book Day a couple years ago, for something a tad different. It's yet another Batgirl figure (statue?) in our "Backlog of Batgirls" in 2020, and we're still trying to catch up! (Yes, more have been procured since we started chipping away at the backlog ... sigh ...) For this one, you'll see that she's part of a dynamic duo -- though her sometimes-boyfriend from the comics, Nightwing, is conspicuously absent! We'll explain why ...

Last week you saw the creative collages of TV and movie stars by "Just a Fan." Now we present part 2, another assortment of lovely image. Thanks again, C.J.!

Canadian artist Jim Wilson gets creative again, this time on the Starship Enterprise

Well, our buddy Jim Wilson of the Great White North is at it again. You've seen Jim's clever "Dukes of Hazzard" art on this blog, and it was featured in the BRBTV books "Them Dukes! Them Dukes!" and "Let's Roll, Kato: A Guide to TV's Green Hornet." Jim is also a fan of "Star Trek," both the original series and various other incarnations. One of his latest garage projects (and he has many, believe me!) was the command chair of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise. This turned out pretty nice! And Jim completed this very quickly, in only a couple days.

I had to wonder about that snazzy NCC 1701 nameplate. Jim says it's a piece of brass plate with plastic letters he glued on and painted in hammer finish paint. Then he dusted it with gold and brass paint.

This talented guy has got to take commissions, I say!!! Geesh. And Jim jokes that he added the beer because it's a Canadian chair (for a Canadian captain, actually).

Check out these beautiful TV show collages by a talented fan

He calls himself "Just a Fan," and he generously shares with BRBTV his creative collages of stars of TV shows and movies both classic and modern. "Wonder Woman," "The Bionic Woman," the '80s "Supergirl movie and the modern CW TV show "Supergirl," classic "Star Trek" and more have inspired him. Thanks so much, C.J., for sharing these, and there are so many that we're going to break this into two posts -- one this week and one next week! (And no, he doesn't mind if you download them.)

Terrific TV Toys: Batgirl figures from "DC Super Hero Girls," part 2!

Last month on Terrific TV Toys, we showed you some Batgirl dolls / figures from the "DC Super Hero Girls" web / TV series, the original incarnation. Now, we look at a couple more dolls, but we're bringing it more up to date with the version of the show that's currently airing on the Cartoon Network. This second incarnation of "Super Hero Girls" is savvy, smart, and the little jokes and quirks roll by quick, so you've got to pay attention! (Maybe that's if you're an adult -- kids probably get it much better!)

Tune in this Saturday to hear BRB chat "Dallas," "Dynasty" and lots more classic TV stuff!

Many thanks to Scott Romine, whom this author knows from "The Dukes of Hazzard" realm, for the lively chat on all kinds of classic television shows and geekery for his weekly radio show "Gwatney Unplugged" on KARN Newsradio 102.9. Scott, a talented artist who collaborated on paintings with the late James ("Rosco P. Coltrane) Best of "The Dukes," and has helped create celeb websites, wanted to talk all things "Dukes," of course, but also great shows like "Dallas," "Dynasty," "CHiPs" and more.

Our chat hits the airwaves at 11 a.m. on Saturday from the Little Rock, Arkansas, station, but you can listen live from anywhere at the KARN website.

Check out the redesigned GreenHornet.com

The official website of the Green Hornet has gotten a sleek new look, as just announced by Mary Kay Johnston in The Black Beauty (the 1966 Green Hornet) and The Green Hornet Vintage Toys Facebook groups. Mary Kay's grandfather was George Trendle, a creator of the Green Hornet character and producer of the 1966 TV series of the character, and Mary Kay serves as board VP of Green Hornet Inc.

Called "The Green Hornet and Kato" with a nod to the superstardom of co-star Bruce Lee, the new site features a history of the characters as well as a list of current licensees, including this author and "Let's Roll, Kato: A Guide to TV's Green Hornet." There's a new movie being considered for the characters, and an animated series has been mentioned lately, too, so how timely to see a new official website, too!

Tom Wopat to appear in "Guy Fawkes" play in September

Here's an upcoming event that's not likely to be canceled due to COVID-19 since it's already made accommodations for it: The Guy Fawkes play presented annually by the Misquamicut Business Association in Rhode Island. This year, the play will be at a drive-in theater, with social distancing in effect. The actors will present it on a stage in front of the screen, and it will be projected on the screen, as well. The play, a comedy about a man who attempted in 1605 to blow up the King and Parliament, will feature Broadway star Tom Wopat, our own Luke Duke of "The Dukes of Hazzard."

It happens in September at the Misquamicut Drive-In Theater, 316 Atlantic Ave, Westerly, Rhode Island. See the Facebook page or Eventbrite page. Thanks to Kimberly for the heads-up, and the date correction! This one was previously scheduled for October, then moved to September 11.

Tune in to the Pop Ninja podcast this week where BRB, Lisa and Patrick discuss "Isis," "Dallas" and more

Kids of the '70s, teens of the '80s, even kids of the '80s and '90s, Gen-X-ers, Y-ers and whatever else, this is a crazy conversation for you .... I got the chance to join Patrick Bennett (see Monday's post) and Lisa Everetts for the second episode of the "Pop Ninja" podcast, and it was a tremendous amount of fun. In fact, we could have talked at least a couple more hours about all the TV shows we love.

The episode dropped this morning on Buzzsprout. If you're a fan of "Dallas," "Dynasty" or "The Dukes of Hazzard," there's plenty of that in there!

Patrick and Lisa have lots of other guests planned for the coming weeks -- actors from your favorite movies and shows included, such as Brian Cutler and Joanna Pang of the aforementioned "Secrets of Isis" and Adrienne King from "Friday the 13th."

Thanks so much to Patrick and Lisa for the chance to chat!!!

The Green Hornet inspires this Louisiana filmmaker

"I’m a huge fan of that character. I mean huge!!" says independent filmmaker Patrick Bennett of Louisiana, whom you met last week on the brand-new "Pop Ninja" podcast with Lisa Everetts. Patrick is such a fan, actually, that the GH character has inspired his work.

"I love the two cliffhanger serials they made in the '40s," he says. "One with Gordon Jones and one with Warren Hull. Just last month I put together a serial version costume of that character. Maybe someday I’ll wear it to a con."

"I loved the ‘60s series, too," Patrick says. "I get all those Dynamite comics and I listen to an episode of the old Green Hornet radio show every day while I’m driving to work. I’m such a geek. LOL. I’m looking forward to the animated TV series Kevin Smith is producing. I did a YouTube show a couple months back where a friend and I reviewed the two serials and the TV show."

Patrick produces an event every year called the Calcasieu Serialfest there in Louisiana. Last month marked the seventh one. "It’s a Saturday of serial chapter screenings, serial cosplay, etc.," Patrick explains. "This year I made some COVID masks to give to attendees to wear during the event that look like the Green Hornet mask from the early comics and radio show program. I also made up some Green Hornet buttons that look like the radio show premiums they would give away in the ‘40s. I love me some Hornet."

Catch the brand-new Pop Ninja podcast

Patrick Bennett and Lisa Everetts are fans of a lot of great TV shows, movies and other stuff in our pop culture. If you've seen the BRBTV "Superchicks" book, then you might recall Lisa as the avid "Secrets of Isis" fan who met star Joanna Cameron in real life and remains friends with her. Lisa's interview for the book expanded on our dearly departed '70s-'80s Saturday-morning kids' programming, the phenom that us Gen-Xers remember so well.

Well, now Patrick, who's an independent filmmaker in Louisiana, and Lisa, who owns a bed-and-breakfast in Pennsylvania, are teaming up to present a new podcast: "Pop Ninja," a discussion of all kinds of great stuff. The podcast promises "a trip back in time to the pop culture of the '70s and '80s." The inaugural episode is up right now on Buzzsprout, so check it out!

Stay up to date on the Pop Ninja Facebook page, and check out the Pop Ninja YouTube channel, where you can watch "Cliffhangers: The Serial Talk Show." Patrick loves the old-time serials like "Green Hornet" -- more on that later on this very blog!
