New York, NY -- This July, Archie Comics—home to world-famous characters Archie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Josie and the Pussycats and more—will release the first issues of two completely brand new titles: "The Married Life: Archie Loves Betty" and "The Married Life: Archie Loves Veronica." Each title is an entirely new ongoing series with endless possibilities in its creative evolution, both in terms of its visual aesthetics and its more literary approach to storytelling.
Inspired by the overwhelming popularity and demand for the recent Archie wedding story, each title covers the detailed legacy of what might be in Archie’s most passionately debated futures, one married to the haughty debutante, Veronica Lodge, in “Archie Loves Veronica” and the other married to the compassionate girl-next-door, Betty Cooper, in “Archie Loves Betty.”

Archie artist Bill Galvan makes Utah appearance

Amid his typically busy schedule, John Schneider issues a special thanks
Anyone who's a fan of our own Bo Duke of "The Dukes of Hazzard" knows this year is a special year. This is the year he turns the big 5-0. That particular day is a week or two away, still, but that didn't stop a group of fans from giving Schneider a truly unique birthday gift.The idea was hatched about a year ago, spearheaded by avid fan Phyllis Hinkle, and many folks joined in, supplying reminiscing essays and photos for John's reading enjoyment to mark the big day. What "The Dukes" have meant to them, and in particular, what John has meant to them, were popular topics in the highly personal and quite touching letters submitted for the project. The result? The 145-page, oversized, paperback, glossy-cover and full-color book "Dear John."
This is an item you won't see for sale in your favorite bookstore, as it was designed purely to be this once-in-a-lifetime gift (though those who participated were offered an opportunity to purchase a copy). Photos of General Lees and fans posing with Schneider abound throughout the pages. BRB also participated, supplying a couple photos of herself in her dazyduks at age 13, a big-time fan of the show back then.
The gift made its way to Schneider earlier this week.
"THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!" he enthused in his email newsletter. "To everyone who participated in my wonderful, moving birthday book, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I will read every word, look fondly at every picture and relish in the memories they bring. Thank you!"
Meanwhile, it's full-speed ahead on various other projects in Schneider's life. Some tidbits from the man himself ...
- "Back 9" is finished, funny and hopefully going to take the airwaves by storm. I warn you that everything about it is raunchy. I warned you!
- "Hot in Cleveland" was a blast and has been picked up. I'm just a guest star on the pilot but may come back in the future.
- "WWJD" is great I hear. Ask about it in your church or look online.
- "Wildthings 4" - What can I say. I had a great time and I think you'll like my part!
- "Demolition Men" (was "Crash Dummies" ) will air on Spike the evening of April 27. Please get as many people as you possibly can to watch this!!! I am not on it but am and executive producer/creator on the show and I need it to be picked up! It's stunt based and fantastic!

Spotted: Joan Collins
She begins the film in a conservative school-marm's attire, but boy, does that change! And if you could think of a Biblical role for our former Alexis Carrington Colby of "Dynasty," wouldn't Potiphar's wife come to mind? After all, the saucy Scriptural vixen saw the handsome Joseph and did what she could to tempt him and generally throw him off track.
And that's just what Joan Collins does in the 2000 film adaptation of the London Palladium stage production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, with rich lyrics by Tim Rice, gives Collins a whole new stage presence.
"She was beautiful but eeee-vil," the singers chime along in a scene awash in black and fuchsia as the black-sequin-clad Collins is introduced as Mrs. Potiphar. Aided by her entourage, she slinkily disrobes Donny Osmond's Joseph in front of what must have been stunned audiences. When the brou-ha-ha is discovered by the enraged Potiphar, his wife simply turns up her nose and poses her significant cigarette holder to her lips dismissively. Soooooo Alexis.
And alas, poor Joseph has to pay for her sins. (And the singerific Osmond really outlungs himself in this one, for sure. Doesn't look too bad in his desert briefs, either.)

The Motor City Comic Con is the place to be this mid-May, to find out whether that stern ole Sheriff Little ever did catch them Duke boys -- or at least one of 'em! Byron "Coy Duke" Cherry will be making his first trip to the Novi, Michigan, event, and he'll be joined by Don Pedro Colley, who portrayed the long arm of the law on "The Dukes of Hazzard."
And while you're there, give a holler to Billie Rae Bates, who will be returning to the event (and her highly beloved Detroit!) again this year to sign copies of the BRBTV reference guide, "Them Dukes! Them Dukes!"
Cherry, Colley and Bates will all be a part of Paul Harrington's "Dukes of Hazzard" museum display, a comprehensive trip back in time to the bright-orange hills of Hazzard County. Inside the traveling museum, you'll find all kinds of fab "Dukes" memorabilia, including lotsa props from the filming of the popular '80s CBS series. The display will include a General Lee, a Hazzard County Sheriff's car (maybe two!) and even a very rare Hazzard County Sheriff's boat!

Spotted: Before "Santa Barbara," Stella Stevens saw some stars (and stripes)
Playing the mom of the devious Gina DeMott Capwell on our beloved "Santa Barbara" must have had certain prerequisites. We're quite sure listing "wrestling Wonder Woman" on her resume must have moved Stella Stevens to the top of the casting list! Sure enough, Stevens, known to us as Phyllis Blake on "SB," starred in the first season of the 1970s "Wonder Woman" TV series starring Lynda Carter. Heck, she starred in the very first episode.

MTV calls R-13 the “Best Under-the Radar Comic Series”

Tom Root, co-head writer and co-producer of the Emmy Award-winning "Robot Chicken" on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim — and co-creator/executive producer of the network’s upcoming "Titan Maximum" — brings his patented irreverent humor to the milestone 200th issue of JUGHEAD.
“Something Ventured, Something Gained” takes Riverdale High’s fabled teens on their wildest ride ever, as Jughead trades his body’s metabolism to a witch in exchange for an irresistible mega cheeseburger… and everything goes bonkers from there with a chain reaction of cataclysmic proportions!
Tom Root has been entertaining comic book and pop culture fans since his days writing “Twisted ToyFare Theatre” stories for ToyFare Magazine.
“Tom Root infuses his scripts with wild humor and energetic storytelling that perfectly fits Jughead,” said Archie Comics CEO Jonathan Goldwater.
This won’t be the first time Root has tackled the Archie comic book teens. One of "Robot Chicken"’s most popular episodes parodies the Archie Comics characters in a send up of the movie “Final Destination.”“The Archie Comics characters are comedy icons,” said Root. “Each character’s personality has been so well-defined over the course of nearly 70 years that it was a lot of fun to shake them up and present them with new challenges. Mostly, though, I just wanted to write a funny issue. I hope Archie fans like it!”
Root’s comic book debut isn’t the only first associated with Jughead’s 200th issue — the book will also be available with Archie Comics’ first-ever variant cover, by noted comics artist and JUGHEAD penciller Rex Lindsey.
For every three regular issues purchased, the Lindsey variant will be included free.
JUGHEAD #200 retails for $2.50 and will be available March 17.

A movie, to be exact, drawing from elements familiar to all of us diehard "Dukes" fans ... fast cars, moonshine, Southern livin' ... Why, it even has an Uncle Jesse and a Waylon Jennings. You could call it the movie behind the TV show.
Well, the Hazzard County Car Club has announced "A 'Moonrunners' Weekend" on Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7. The place will be Griffin, Georgia, with host hotel to be announced.
This free event will include a screening of "Moonrunners" and a tour of the local filming sites. As the event approaches, more details will be added and confirmed, so keep your eye on http://www.dukesofhazzard01.com.

It was chilly, but Davy Jones -- and a certain car -- were pretty hot
Neatly filed in the Sights You Don't See Every Day category ... How about a Monkee signing a Monkeemobile?
Yes, it's a real Monkee, and it's even a real Monkeemobile -- one of the two actual screen-used vehicles for the popular 1966 TV show. If you were in Tecumseh, Michigan, last weekend you might have seen this rare sight. Former teen idol Davy Jones, looking sharper than ever, came to town for a concert, and this red-hot Monkeemobile, snagged by our buddy Mel for a pretty penny a couple years back at the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Florida, strolled into town for an appearance, too. Our friend Mike, kind enough to send us these photos by Gary DeLisle, noted it was "brutal cold" that night, and Mr. Jones -- having barely made it to town in time despite a snowstorm en route -- ran out and signed the car and ran back inside, in a flash. So glad Gary captured the moment!
It's not the first time this Monkeemobile has been reunited with a Monkee after so many years, by the way. It got to park itself right next to Micky Dolenz during a signing appearance at the Motor City Comic Con in 2008, as well.

Signy Coleman invites you to her comfy cyber-home
When we interviewed Signy Coleman for our November 21 and 26, 2008 posts, she told us she was planning an official website, one that she had decided to launch to dispel some of the sometimes-outrageous things she would read about herself online. Well, Signy-Coleman.com is live and as inviting as a drive on a lovely stretch of the countryside.
At the site, you'll find not only the standard bio and resume and some beautiful snaps of the modeling days of our former Celeste DiNapoli of "Santa Barbara," you'll even see recipes from this new author, who is releasing a cookbook with her sister, Bethany Coleman-Atherton.
"As I grew and began expanding the area of my pond, my years as a ballerina and sheer determination earned me a ticket to Paris and the chance to strut the catwalks of high fashion," she reminisces in an excerpt from the book. "Forget about becoming Christian Dior’s muse, or being splashed across the glossy pages of fashion magazines, Paris was like waking up in a dream, the golden ticket firmly in hand, into a realm of food far exceeding anything I had ever experienced. ... For this 19 year old tomboy, who had never been further then the mountains north of San Francisco, it was rapture."
The sisters' book, "Snaggin' the Stag: Luring the Hart from Forest, Memoirs with Recipes," blends their own continental adventuring with exotic taste. "It's sort of memoirs of food and love and the chase that's involved," Signy told us about the book. "We tested all the recipes. We dressed, we photographed, everything is ours."
And now, Coleman's new website gives you a glimpse of not only the book, but also her travels and, unmistakably, her flair for life.

James Best will be taking on the "Shrews" once again
Just a few years ago, in 2005, a fervent fan cried out for a sequel on the IMDb page for the 1959 movie, "The Killer Shrews." He kicked off some interesting responses, then later added, "I think James Best could return as the doctor if the movie is remade." Well, faithful fan, you'll be happy to know that Best, our own Rosco P. Coltrane of "The Dukes of Hazzard," is right now working on the script for the sequel, 50 years after the original was released.
"I am been very busy lately, doing a rewrite on a screenplay that Steve Latshaw and I are working on," Best says in the current issue of his email newsletter. "We hope to shoot the movie in the spring. It is a sequel to a movie I made 50 years ago. It is called 'Killer Shrews II.'"
The plot of the original, written by Jay Simms of "Have Gun, Will Travel" and "The Big Valley," involved a group of people on an isolated island, being terrorized by giant, voracious shrews. In the midst of a hurricane, we'll add. And hey, the promotional campaign involved a woman's pink pump and splattered blood, so whaddya expect? (But just so we're clear here -- we're talking about the vicious animal shrew here, not the ... ahem ... female.)
"This was a movie that I made as a favor to a man named Ray Kellogg," Best continues. "Years ago. It was made for practically nothing but was so corny that it actually became a cult film. We hope to shoot it in a three-dimensional format."

Archie Comics announces publishing agreement with Random House

Archie Comic Publications Inc. has reached an agreement with Random House Publisher Services, a division of Random House Inc., to exclusively handle worldwide distribution of Archie graphic novels and trade paperbacks.
The agreement with Random House Publisher Services marks the first time that all Archie paperback titles will be available from one source for both domestic and international trade bookstore distribution. Distribution of the Archie paperback line through Random House will commence on September 1, 2010. The direct comic store distribution of the Archie comics, digests and graphic novels will continue through Diamond Comic Distributors Inc.
“As Archie expands our business globally, we are thrilled to partner with Random House Publisher Services to bring the Archie brand to the world,” said Jon Goldwater, co-CEO of Archie Comics.
“We are delighted Archie Comics will be joining the RHPS client team this September,” said RHPS President Jeff Abraham. “We have developed a strong traction in the graphic-novel category with our bookseller customers, for whom this category is among their fastest-growing. We believe they quickly will find selling the beloved Archie characters and storylines profitable and fun.”
Archie Comics continues to position itself and its brands as an international entertainment entity across multiple media platforms, with many noteworthy accomplishments over the past few quarters. The company made its entry into the world of digital comics, resulting in the most downloaded comic in iTunes history. The direct comic store distribution of the Archie comics, digests and graphic novels will continue through Diamond Comic Distributors Inc.
“As Archie expands our business globally, we are thrilled to partner with Random House Publisher Services to bring the Archie brand to the world,” said Jon Goldwater, co-CEO of Archie Comics.
“We are delighted Archie Comics will be joining the RHPS client team this September,” said RHPS President Jeff Abraham. “We have developed a strong traction in the graphic-novel category with our bookseller customers, for whom this category is among their fastest-growing. We believe they quickly will find selling the beloved Archie characters and storylines profitable and fun.”
Archie Comics continues to position itself and its brands as an international entertainment entity across multiple media platforms, with many noteworthy accomplishments over the past few quarters. The company made its entry into the world of digital comics, resulting in the most downloaded comic in iTunes history. It also initiated a variety of crossover projects with stars of music, movies and television, and inked an entertainment representation deal with Creative Artist Agency. Most notable of all, the hit “Archie Gets Married” comic book storyline received unprecedented international press coverage and is enjoying massive worldwide sales.
The new distribution deal with Random House follows the recent announcement of Archie’s first international office in New Delhi, India.

U.S. Postal Service issues our favorite soda threesome on a stamp
OK, we're afraid we're going to have to issue one of our run-don't-walk edicts, because this one's pretty hot ... This July, run, don't walk, to your neighborhood post office (and if you live in our neighborhood, get there really early, because there's always a line out the door just for usual business!), because you're going to want to nab yourself some of these Archie Comics stamps, part of the "Sunday Funnies" collection.
The U.S. Postal Service issued this description as it unveiled its 2010 line of stamps:
"Offering an idealized portrait of American adolescence, Archie existed only in comic-book form before debuting in newspapers in 1946. A typical small-town teenager with a knack for goofing things up, 17-year-old Archie Andrews is often torn between haughty brunette Veronica Lodge and sweet, blonde Betty Cooper."
Yea, don't we know it ... sigh ...
